DR9 DOOBI ARMORED BULLDOZER

After Operation Peace for Galilee in 1982, when a bulldozer in support of the infantry had seen his operator with no protection against enemy small arms and due to high losses in general among the drivers of such vehicles; became a priority the development and construction of an armored bulldozer that offered protection to his players against the fire of automatic weapons, RPG and similars.
The Caterpillar D9 was preferred to FIAT FA41 and FA31, even the old DF7 service in the IDF was modified and armored.
These Dozers are crucial to remove obstacles, dig any kind of moat, pave roads or open new ones, recover damaged vehicles (such as Merkava tanks and similars) and for many other operations.
From the 90's large number of D9 enter into service in the IDF, for  first D9N and D9L , and then a high number of D9R, that the same Americans had adapted for service in Iraq.
Sappers Israelis have now nicknamed Doobi (teddy bear).
The D9R has an engine of 410 HP and unlike its predecessors D9N and D9L  does not have a M113 dome but a door and a 7.62 mm MAG machine gun .
The cabin has been reduced in size and thickness of the armored glass increased, the metal grid welded to the blade is used to prevent the stones and rocks get stuck in mechanisms between the vehicle and blade.
In the latest versions the cabin was surrounded with metal grilles to provide greater protection to the crews, the troops called the "ladders".
